Comida? A melhor do mundo!

"ODE" a Portugal

What else? Temos cafés e esplanadas por toda a parte. Venha cá beber um nespresso!

Translating:
If George Clooney came to Portugal, he would leave Italy

Well, I say this because according to the press Clooney has chosen lake Como in Milan, Italy has a residence because he made a visit there and when he watched a man passing by slowly, whistling and caring a hoe in his back he felted those people knew how to live. Well mr. Clooney, we have that here too. The European Union almost eradicate this way of life by making it hard to make money with agriculture and fishing activities. But if you accept the invitation to came here, you'll find out that this simple ways still survive. I say this because some of us that live in the «big» city to this day maintain an improvised vegetable garden.  The taste for the "hoe" and the fishing nets has not left us, you see?

You can find fresh and shiny silver fish in the several markets still surviving all over the country. A beauty not to be missed. As people, we portuguese are kind of whiny between ourselves - although we are a very good humored people. In spite of that sad "fado" for some reason we receive and accommodate well, are well disposed and funny. We are curious but not pushy and seeing a celebrity is not something from another world. Most of the youngsters speak english fluently, but those who don´t have no problem communicating with the foreigners with good will and gestures. No language barrier will stop us from helping out, that's is quite interesting to watch.

If someone came to live here and adopt our routines, it will became has one of us very quickly. FOOD you ask? It is the best. Ok, you may be thinking my opinion is suspect and it is true I did not taste every food styles that exist in the world to be able to compare it to ours. But even so, I will have to go on a limp and say it is the best. Food and wine it is what normally tourist point out  has the best first pleasure from this country. But if you wish to taste this mr. Clooney, please hurry because UE has played out with this too.

Sweet Rice - typical portuguese confectionery

"ODE" to Portugal

For a few days I came to be a tourist in Italy and has my intuition was saying mr. Clooney, both countries are similar in almost everything. They have the same fauna, similar vegetation, almost the same color and light, the same grafitis, almost the same old metal train carriages along with some other more modern, etc. But in my modest opinion Portugal and Lisboa still came out winning. The food here it is best and the confectionery in particular, is soooooo bad in Rome - at least it was for me during my tourist staying.

The quality of the water in Italy it is to run away from, it is not good and even the bottled one feels strange and unsatisfying. Although Rome have it's water drinking founts all over the place and Lisbon has seen it's ones disappear along the years, still water here has a superior quality to it.

Green spaces, you ask? Well, in Rome they're mirages. Where are they? So few of them that one sooner feels the effects of a 35ºC heat than the pleasure of a shadow. The same appends with benches. Most of them are in places where one is obliged to consume some kind of food or beverage. Gardens and sidewalks benches are hard to find in Rome or Italy. The tourists are seen seated in street stairs not because it'sa beautiful place, but because they're are tired and in need to seat somewhere. From shadows, gardens, parks and sidewalks benches Lisbon does not eager for. Here you can also find many street stairs, long, long ones, has well typical 1900's neighborhoods with gardens and green vegetation everywhere. Our sidewalks benches are for people to seat down without having to consume anything. And have I mentioned we too have sea? The most ocidental part of Europe guess where it is? Here!

Cape Espichel
Had we not been influenced by roman culture, we also have lots of roman ruins, legacies from another time and age. Has a people that developed a significant role in discovering the world by seas about 500 years ago, there's also several historical monuments - enough to tired one's up.

Every street has it's statue or bust - Lisbon is practically an open street museum. In spite all this, we don't have a castle in a lake. Oh, don´t think this country lacks castles. Au contraire. They are so many for such a small country. We just don´t have one in a lake.

But we have the sea, enchanted beaches, water falls, dams and rivers. Would it be nice to you, mr. Clooney, the Almourol Castle?  It's not habitable and it's far for being so but it is a castle in the middle of a river - the only one in Europe. You cannot get there by speedboat, to ride in one you'll have to go to Castelo de Bode's dam. To reach Almourol's Castle you will have to use a small paddle boat. Just think about the positive aspect to it: you'll save money in gasoline and also in maintenance, mr. Clooney. Not to speak of the ecology footstep - a paddle boat equals ZERO pollution. And has the extra advantage of being a exercise a Hollywood movie star is always in need. You won't even have to go to the gym!

Almourol's Castle
I could go on and on but it's time to finish this exposure of facts, mr. Clooney. They make me believe that if you came to Portugal you would not wanna leave. What else? We have coffee shops all over the place. Came in and take an nespresso!
